The human body is a complex machine. Even today science has not been able to understand the whole functioning of the body. The human body comprises of both physical and emotional functioning. It is a very smart machine that understands if anything goes wrong with your body or anything that can put your body in danger.

Stress is something that can affect the functioning of your body. There are many signs that your body gives when you are over stressed. So here we are going to talk about those signs that you must not ignore and if you find any one of the signs happening with you, please work on it and get rid of it as soon as possible.

1. The Sleep

Stress can have a real impact on your sleep cycle. As per the American Institute of Stress, Too much stress can cause you to to have a bad sleep, leading to mental and physical health issues which can, in turn, cause stress in daily life, leading to poor sleep at night.

Stress can cause hormonal imbalance in our body. Those same hormones can cause your body to stay awake. “When people had these really frustrating, upsetting experiences in their everyday lives, they had dreams where they felt stressed, sad or frustrated,” Netta Weinstein, a senior lecturer in social and environmental psychology at Cardiff University, and a lead author of a study on stress and dreams, told Live Science. She also said stress can even cause very specific dream scenarios.

“The link between the experiences and the content of the dreams was less robust,” Weinstein explained. “But we found some evidence that dreams about falling, being attacked by someone, being locked up or trying repeatedly to do something and failing at it could be linked to a frustrating experience during the day.”

2. The Digestive System

Your stomach can be first to experience the symptoms of stress on anxiety.

“The brain has a direct effect on the stomach and intestines,” Harvard Health explained. It also said that even when a person merely thinks about food, his or her stomach will release acids in preparation of a meal.

The brain and stomach connection is a two-way street that can have a direct impact on the digestive system of your body. According to Harvard Health, “A troubled intestine can send signals to the brain, just as a troubled brain can send signals to the gut.”

Stress can cause an increase in stomach acids causing acidity and stomach ulcer. Common symptoms of stress caused excessive acid is burning pain in the stomach, nausea, and bloating.

3. The Hair

This is also a very common issue found in a stressed person. The signal is that if you start finding more hair strands in your brush or in the drain. According to the Mayo Clinic, there are three types of hair loss associated with stress: telogen effluvium, alopecia areata, and trichotillomania.

  • Telogen Effluvium occurs when hair follicles are pushed into “Resting Phase” by significant stress. This means that hair is pushed out before completing its growth cycle. When this happens, affected hairs might fall out suddenly while combing or washing.
  • Alopecia Areata is caused by severe stress. When this happens, the immune system of the body attacks the hair follicles causing loss of hair.
  • Trichotillomania occurs when a person has irresistible urge to pull hair out of the scalp, eyebrows and other areas of your body.

It is an important thing to note that hair loss is not permanent. This can be stopped, work on to mitigate your stress level. Use techniques like meditation, socialize with people. This will surely help.

4. The Water

Dehydration is the cause of many things in your body. And for sure it is not a good thing to stay thirsty. Drinking less water can lead your body not to function properly which can cause stress. Drinking water will keep you hydrated and your body remains cool and calm.

“Studies have shown that being just half a litre dehydrated can increase your cortisol levels,” Amanda Carlson, RD, director of performance nutrition at Athletes’ Performance, told WebMD. “Cortisol is one of those stress hormones. Staying in a good hydrated status can keep your stress levels down. When you don’t give your body the fluids it needs, you’re putting stress on it, and it’s going to respond to that.”

5. The Headache

“Headaches are more likely to occur when you’re stressed,” the Mayo Clinic explained. “Stress is a common trigger of tension-type headaches and migraine, and can trigger other types of headaches or make them worse.”

Can you do something about it? Yes, you can, you can live a less stressful life. If your headache is severe and is followed by fever or double vision, you need to see your doctor immediately.

6. The Sweat

If you are working out or walking in the sun, it’s normal to sweat. But it is not normal if you are sweating out of stress. 

“When the body is reacting to an emotion, like anxiety, stress or excitement, sweat is released from the apocrine glands,” Piedmont Health explained. The apocrine glands are located under the armpit, the groin and on the scalp. 

The initial sweat is odorless but can lead to odor if it sits on the skin for a longer period. 

So what to do about stress sweat? Relax more, meditate, exercise. Walk a while alone and it will surely help you relax. Most importantly, minimize stress in your life. T

Stress is not a good sign. This means something is not right in your life. A stressful life impacts the people around you, whom you love and be around. Get rid of it. Talk to somebody, take therapy, talk to yourself, spend time with YOU.
